Why social media become so toxic??

Social media has become a special part of life for everyone. It has become a tool for self empowerment, a way to express yourself, it’s a way to stay connected with your inner circle….all of that. But what happens when the noise of social media becomes so intense that it overpowers your life???......a noise that doesn't let up. Unfortunately that's what social media has become for some people. From trolling everyone to abusing, mocking people on religious basis, body shaming, giving life threats, bullying etc, many uses it that way.
From last few years social media sites has become a place to run someone's evil propaganda, politicians use social media to manipulate people. They uses social media for spreading riots and hate among people. Recent example is Anti-Hindu delhi riots, where some group of people spread fake news everyday, trends communal hashtags on twitter and influence people for gathering on roads against government. In today's world the most toxic place is social media where no one cares for anyone's life, death, financial status, or their families. They just troll you and run their moto of harassing people.

Whats wrong with social media?

Few years back there were less people on social media many people doesn't even know about social media but with the advancement in technology and cheaper internet across country the access of social media reaches to many people. India tops the list of most number of people on Facebook with over 280+ million monthly active users. India also tops list of WhatsApp with 340+ million users. People here easily get influence by others on social media. From following cheap hairstyles of their favourite movie/tiktok star to repeating their cheap doings people does everything. Youngsters in this country spend more time on social media than studies which obviously affect their academic performance. Social media has become so much of toxic that even it encourages people for heinous crimes of theft, murder and suicides. Social media provides a open platform for expressing someone's views which some illiterate uses for harming others. Many people make fake accounts for harassing girls/boys, making sexual comments on their posts abusing them, mock them on the basis of cast and religion. Recent example is boys locker room and girls locker room incident which openly praises rape culture and promote the same. Celebrities has been trolled so much that they are even forced to quit social media. Recent example is trolling of Karan Johar, Salman Khan and others on the death of their fellow actor. On the name of trolling and making memes people here openly abuses government and PM even some sick people abuses God. Here on social media you will easily find many pages or account which promotes terrorism, hate against other religions, promotes sexual contents, child abuse and even animal abuse.
One cannot forget what social media sites are doing for privacy. They collects every possible data of users including personal details like mobile numbers, address, emails. But later users data get leaked on dark web and internet. Recently data of over 270 million Facebook users was breached. One of the most famous app tiktok has been banned in india for security reasons which they violates. Basically after joining social media you have already lost your privacy.

Is social media really that bad?

Like every other things social media do also have two sides. It is upto us how we use social media. For some people social media is a platform to express their talent and views while for others it is a platform to run their Evil ideology. For some people social media is a medium to reach out to people and teach them knowledge about different things, to teach them kindness towards others to be a better person but for some sick people it is a medium of harassing others. People uses social media for influencing young generations towards positive things, for doing something for their country and parents while some uses to promote terrorism communal messages and bully others. People should use social media for spreading and gaining knowledge, to connect with the people they inspire from. Social media is not evil it is us who makes it worse.
This is time to question yourself how you use social media. Are you one of them who bully others on social media or the one who influence other for good work. Are you one who mocks people on caste and religion basis or you help make social media a better platform. It is on us to end the toxicity of social media and provide a better option for future. Social media will be nontoxic again if everyone stop spreading hate and uses it for betterment of future.
